Book - A History Of Garage & Frat Bands in Memphis (1960-1975)

Rock 'n roll was invented in Memphis. Once that auspicious big bang occurred, the kids in Memphis ran out to Sears, bought cheap guitars, Farfisa organs, and drums, and headed straight to their parent's garages. Over 500 garage rock and fraternity rock bands formed in the Memphis area in the 1960's. This is the story of those bands. Memphis music writer Ron Hall spent three years fanatically tracking down over one hundred Memphis area garage and fraternity rock 'n roll bands from the 60's and 70's who recorded at least one 45. Many of these bands you have heard of: The Box Tops, The Gentrys, Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs; many you have not- The Guilloteens, The Yo Yo's, and Joe Frank and the Knights. Hall gives you the history of each band, lists their discography, and digs up incredibly wild unpublished photos that depict this under-discussed genre of Memphis music.
